Choosing Couch Fabric

I mentioned here that I'm planning on recovering all our couch pillows and cushions.
I just can't stand the microfiber that they're currently covered in.

Originally my plan had been to recover them in white fabric so that I could bleach out any stains.
But now I'm rethinking that.

I got some fabric swatches in today and I've been laying them all over the couch/ottoman/rug/throw pillows to see which one I like best.

I'll let you guys know what I end up choosing!

Have a great weekend!!

  1. I just sent a couch to the upholsterer. Choosing a fabric was a chore. (It's supposed to be fun!!) There were lots of criteria. It had to be sturdy for grandchild, dog, husband's naps, yet pretty for me and go with the rest of the room. Good luck!

  3. Good luck Brooke! Can't wait to see it all done. I think the fourth one on the right side of the picture doesn't look durable enough for a couch, you can see right through it!

  9. Where are you getting fabric from and how much per yard? I bought an Ethan Allen sofa for $100 from an estate sale and it in excellent condition but I'm not thrilled about the pattern. I need about 22 yards, and with fabric so expensive, it's getting pretty pricey!

    1. I can totally relate! Everywhere I was pricing for upholstery fabric was so expensive! This fabric is from http://slipcoverfabrics.com and it's the cheapest prices I've found- the one I'm going with is $18 a yard. I'd been pricing up fabrics at places like Joann Fabrics and even with a 50% off coupon they could not even come close to the prices that this place has. Plus this site's fabrics are specifically made for slipcovers and are all washable which is a must for me. You can also try West Elm: www.westelm.com and in their search box put "fabric by the yard". They have good prices too on their fabrics, with the cheapest being like $20/yd and the most expensive like $35 or $40/yd. And I love their selection. Theirs are just dry clean only which is why I went with Slipcover Fabrics.
Hope that helps! I'd love to see your sofa when you finish it!!
